The works will be carried out during the completion of a major external refurbishment contract to over-clad the external facade of the building. Please note that the site will be a Live Building Site and will also be occupied with both staff & students present within the building. These works are programmed to be completed by December 2016:Lift replacement programme dates May 2016 December 2016We wish to appoint a Lift Installation Contractor to assist the University in upgrading the existing passenger lifts to provide modern passenger lifts. The selected Contractor will share the existing site with the Principal Contractor as defined by Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.The intentions is to work on replacing one passenger lift at a time, complete and handover the completed lift before the next lift installation begins. There may be flexibility to overlap the installation of the second and third lift installation, however this has still to be confirmed. The works must be completed by the end of December 2016.The University estimates that the overall construction value for work will be circa £400,000.The Appleton Tower is home to the world-leading School of Informatics and is a key landmark in the University~s Central Area. The building is recognised as an exemplar of modern design by Historic Scotland. The building was opened in 1968 and was named in posthumous honour of physicist Sir Edward Appleton. The building has a gross internal floor area of 11885m2 and currently comprises of a lower ground, ground and then ten floors incorporating teaching areas and plant rooms.The Main Contractor~s scope of works include:Removing existing lifts (3nr) in a programmed sequence of worksInstallation of (3nr) new passenger lifts.
