The unit started operations in February 2015. There are two (2) separate service units in Kotiranta, Siika and Muikku. In the Siika unit downstairs, the services are provided by the city of Kuusamo. The service operations of the Upstairs Muikku unit are the responsibility of a private service provider, which is applied for through a tender. The site has been built with the support of ARA. The condition of the ARA support decision (grant decision of 30 April 2019, 329922/321712) is that the municipality must be able to change the service provider operating in the service building, for example as a result of a tender. Residents must be allowed to continue as a tenant of the property despite the change of service provider. There are 30 (2 x 15) places for residents in enhanced service housing for the elderly. Residents come to the unit through service guidance either from home or from the shift unit.
