The key element of this research proposal is to evaluate the effects of new legislation on consumer behaviour, i.e. switching between different products, types and brands of products or changing behaviour such as quitting smoking. We are looking for data from a consumer panel representative to the UK that would allow us to track changes in individual behaviour (at individual or household level), and would also allow us to gain access to a sample of consumers to ask more detailed questions about changes in their behaviours or attitudes. This is a 2 Part tender. A high quality of data and delivery is expected for each component (consumer panel data on purchasing and access to consumer panel) of this tender. We are seeking for one provider to provide both parts. Part 1: Consumer panel market research data on purchasing patterns of tobacco products in the UK. Part 2: Administration of a structured questionnaire to a sample of consumers identified within the Part 1 of this tender. The University is seeking to appoint a provider of market research data involving consumer panel on purchasing patterns of tobacco products in the UK. The requirements for this tender include providing data for time period 2011-2018 with a possibility to extend the contract for another 2 years. We would also be seeking to have an option to access a sample of consumers with a structured questionnaire(s) during the tender period. The service would commence on 1.8.2016. In the 1st year (Sept 2016) of the Contract we would expect to get historical data including years 2011-2015 as soon as possible after the start of the contract, and 2016 data in February 2017 (by 10 March absolute latest). We would then expect data covering one year in February 2017 (by 10 March absolute latest) of 2018 and 2019. Additionally, we would carry out a survey with a sample from consumer panel in 2017 and 2018 using a structured questionnaire inquiring about switching behaviour and reasons for it. A sample of consumers that will be asked to complete the questionnaire will be selected from the consumer panel data based on their purchases of tobacco products. In case the funding is extended we will require data at the end of 2019. The essential requirements for this tender will include ability to provide at least household level data on purchasing patterns of tobacco products including data on the amount of money spent on the products, brand and brand variant, packaging size, type and whether it is branded or plain, purchasing place, an basic data on consumer such as an indicator of socio-economic status. The outputs are: 1) Provision of data in line with the requirements. 2) Provision of surveys carried out on behalf of the University of Nottingham research team.
