The aim of the Legible Leicester project is to deliver a comprehensive and integrated way-finding, transport and visitor information system, as well as to develop a city identity to shape the use of typography, colour and other design elements within the system. The Legible Leicester project comprises the following main work streams: — Provision of a network of cycle and pedestrian signs and information panels/maps across the whole city centre area. — Provision of new/consolidated highway vehicular signage across the whole city area, focussing primarily on the main road network. — Provision of a new car park Variable Message Signing system also capable of displaying other information as well. — City Boundary sign replacement. The proposed way-finding system will influence user behaviour across all transport modes by revealing the city as an accessible, walkable and vibrant place with a range of character areas and themed activities promoting longer stays and repeat visits. Providing a clear information system that promotes ease of movement and healthier lifestyle choices is vital in helping people make the most of the city.
