Ochiltree is a village in East Ayrshire with a population of approximately 1600.When it was announced in May 2013 that the Ochiltree Commmunity Centre and Library was to close, a voluntary steering group was formed by 12 dedicated and concerned residents of the village. The steering group ascertained through community consultation that there was a need and a desire within the village for it to have its own community facilities, and this laid the foundations for the formation of Ochitree Community Hub which was established as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in October 2014.To progress the project, Ochiltree Community Hub established a formal partnership with the Prince~s Foundation for Building Community and through this relationship the vision for the community space has been developed and concept designs have been prepared. In the same period, the buildings that formed the original Community Centre and Library have been demolished and an asset transfer of the cleared site has been legally agreed between Ochiltree Community Hub and East Ayrshire Council.Ochiltree Community Hub now need to engage professional assistance to take the project forward to a suitable level of detail and scope to meet the requirements of applications to major funders. The selection process is being undertaken on the basis that if capital funding is secured, the appointment of the selected design team can be extended to include subsequent work stages.
