| Overview | Contract Award's Details : New Library and Museum - Asbestos Removal (Working Title) Wakefield Council New Library and Museum - Asbestos Removal (Working Title) Wakefield Council has been successful in bidding for monies from the Government's Levelling-up Fund Round 1 which will enable the Authority to drive forward regeneration plans within the City to deliver long term economic and productivity growth. The funding contribution will enable Works to commence on the new Wakefield City Library and Museum. A vacant building has been acquired and as part of initial requirements to get to RIBA Stage 2, several building surveys are required. On review of the existing Asbestos R&D Survey issued in June 2022, the survey identified a number of instances of asbestos containing materials (ACMs) within the work area that requires remedial actions. The asbestos remediation scope of works has been written to ensure removal of ALL ACMs that will affect the proposed refurbishment works. Due to the proposed extent of the refurbishment works, it is anticipated that all identified ACMs will be removed as part of the works with no asbestos materials remaining on completion. All materials will be disposed of off-site in accordance with current legislation. Site clearance is to be carried out by appropriately qualified professional organisations in accordance with current legislation. The demolition/strip-out of internals other than the removal of asbestos, is out of scope.
