The research project s objectives are the creation/population of the Marine Mammal Monitoring (M3) Program``s marine mammal behavioral database, to develop a behavioral niche to establish measures of behavioral responses in ocean areas that exhibit low to high vessel activity levels, to study the feasibility and advantages to conducting an acoustic behavioral response study (BRS) using M3 to monitor the acoustic environment in the presence of low frequency active (LFA) sonar transmissions to collect and measure the behavioral responses of large whales to LFA sonar exposure, to develop and refine statistical analysis procedures to support the future evaluation of marine mammal behavioral responses to LFA sound and update the behavioral responses function for LFA sona...
