In 1686 it was recorded that Maybole was home to the town houses of no fewer than 28 lords and landowners with estates in Carrick and beyond.This assignment will identify important buildings in the area and record and interpret the history and heritage of the town. It will also review local archaeology. The contractor will be expected to support local volunteers undertaking activities such as research and analysis of local plans, maps, etc., photographic assignments, production of exhibition materials.An important element of the assignment is to capture aerial footage of buildings and historical sites in the town. The contractor will be expected to work closely with the Maybole 500 Digital Media Youth project Digital Crew, which is a group of young people who are gaining skills by recording all aspects of the Maybole 500 project.Important partners for the contractor include Ayrshire Archives, local historians, family history groups, Historic Environment Scotland, Scotland~s Urban Past and archaeologists. The contractor and/or these partners will be expected to provide professional advice and training for community volunteers, which will allow them to undertake supervised research and analysis for the final project delivery.The conclusion of these activities will be the production and delivery of a week-long exhibition in summer 2017. Maybole 500 organisers will provide a venue for this at no cost to the contractor but the contractor will be expected to fund items such as refreshments, speakers (if any), marketing for the event, and, of course, the exhibition materials to be displayed. It is intended that this exhibition will be a high profile event that will bring heritage groups, architects, local authorities and interested individuals to Maybole. It will also be an opportunity for everyone who has been involved in the M500 project to view the results of their work.
