This monitoring takes place in the dutch coastal waters (wadden sea, North sea, Westerschelde and oosterschelde). The monitoring serves to determine the file sizes of commercial shellfish species, On the basis of which fisheries policy can be determined and evaluated. In most areas the research is carried out with ships from the rijksrederij. The wadden sea is an exception to this. Here, Since the beginning of the monitoring, A cockle ship has been used because of the use of monstems that are connected to the suction installation of this type of ship. To carry out the annual shellfish surveys on the wadden sea and part of the voordelta, Wmr needs a ship with crew.
