Absorption of the wound exudates will lower the bio-burden within the wound bed, Reduce odours and absorb proteases. The calcium ions within the dressing will exchange with the sodium ions within the wound exudates and form a gel. This interaction also achieves haemostasis. The fact that these dressings turn into a gel will reduce pain and trauma on removal. They should be composed of a mix of m, G and mg groups of alginates.
