SLU has performed animal locomotion analysis for many years using equipment from Qualisys. The software used enables clinical use of the system in equine lameness examinations. Clinical use means that the system is very easy to use with less than a minute preparation time of horse to be examined. Analysis results is at hand within five seconds of finished recording of a horse trotting on a straight line or on a circle. Analysis means that parameters calculated are scientifically published and used to describe weight-bearing lameness in horses. More specifically: minimum and maximum head, withers and pelvis differences, range up and down for left and right side of head, withers, pelvis and each tuber coaxae. Additionally it is possible to calculate speed, stride length, stride frequency, tracking of hind limbs vs fore limbs, neck angle and also show track over ground. All parameters as well as raw data are presented in a number of alternative plots as well as in table format. The software allows scrutinizing of data with the interactive ability to select and deselect specific (aberrant) strides. The software also allow further development by the customer. The purpose if this purchase is to expand SLUs existing capacity to perform lameness examinations on animals and to create a locomotion analysis laboratory enabling kinematic measurements of unconfined animal movements.
