Algeria - Algeria Renewable Energy Program (AREP)
Detail:
The Algeria Renewable Energy Program (AREP) is a technical assistance operation designed to support the Government of Algeria in rolling out a competitive and bankable procurement framework for large-scale solar photovoltaic projects led by Independent Power Producers (IPPs), in line with the National Renewable Energy Development Strategy 2015–2030. The total cost of the program is estimated at USD 1.051 million, of which USD 995,000 is financed through a grant from the African Development Bank’s Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA). This financing is complemented by an in-kind contribution of approximately USD 56,000 from the Government of Algeria, and is expected to be further supported by parallel technical assistance from the Middle-Income Country Technical Assistance Fund (MIC-TAF), which may contribute up to USD 0.5 million for capacity building, as well as legal advisory services provided by the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF). The program is implemented by SONATRACH, the national energy company, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Finance and the national electricity utility SONELGAZ.
