Title:
Burundi - Support energy for cooking and restoration of the environment in four refugee camps
Detail:
The proposed project aims at stabilising/building resilience to the fragility risks they face and peaceful co-habitation between the host population and refugees in Burundi. Burundi hosts many refugees fleeing instability in Eastern Congo and is under considerable environmental pressure due to the collection of firewood by these refugees. In this respect, the project design is based on an approach aimed at mitigating these fragility factors through the provision of alternative energy sources to firewood, reforestation in and around the camps and the promotion of peaceful co-habitation between refugees and the host population for better social cohesion which in turn contributes to the living conditions of the refugees and host population at the economic, social and health levels. Its implementation is structured around the following three (03) components: (i) Access to clean energy for cooking in the camps; (ii) Reforestation around the camps; and (iii) Peaceful co-habitation between refugees and host population through income generating activities.
