Title:
Cameroon - Humanitarian and food security emergency response to mitigate the effects of floods
Detail:
This proposed emergency response aligns with the Government of Cameroon’s effort to respond to the needs created by the severe floods in the Far North. President Paul Biya released CFA 350 million (around USD 590,000) on 13 September 2024 to deliver assistance to the flood-affected people. While this is a vital contribution, the scale of the disaster far surpasses the available resources. The destruction of livelihoods, compounded by the worsening food insecurity and malnutrition, calls for coordinated international support to meet the urgent needs of the affected population. To complement national emergency efforts, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has partnered with WFP to submit a request for funding under the Bank’s Special Relief Fund (SRF) aimed at providing critical life-saving food and nutrition assistance to food-insecure populations affected by the floods in the Far North region. This proposal is aligned with the AfDB's revised policy guidelines for emergency relief assistance (ADB/BD/WP/2008/211/Rev.1–ADF/BD/WP/2008/173/Rev.1). The project contributes to climate finance, with 1 million USD of the total approved amount dedicated to adaptation.
