Title:
Democratic Republic of Congo- The Bukavu-Goma Road Development and Asphalting Project, Phase 1, Bukavu-Nyamukubi Section
Detail:
The proposed operation is for an ADF grant of UA 36.67million and a TSF loan of UA 33.33 million to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to finance the Bukavu-Goma Road Development and Asphalting Project, Phase 1, Bukavu-Nyamukubi Section. The project involves developing the Bukavu-Goma Road, Bukavu-Nyamukubi section, improving some of the main roads and ramps of the RN2 in Bukavu for a total of 117 km and rehabilitating related infrastructure in the South Kivu province. The province is heavily landlocked due to the advanced state of deterioration of its road network. The project will help to open up the central region of the DRC (Kasai-Oriental and Kasai Central, Sankuru and Lomami provinces) by linking it to the eastern part of the DRC and providing it with a connection to the ports of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam. It builds on the Bank’s interventions and those of the TFPs to open up the central and eastern parts of the DRC, while offering an opportunity for national and regional integration. The project has three components:(i) Infrastructure; (ii) Capacity building and studies; and (iii) Project management and monitoring. It will be implemented from January 2022 to December 2026, i.e. for 60 months.
