Ethiopia - Building Climate Resilience for Food and Livelihoods Program (BREFOL) in the Horn of Africa

BREFOL is funded by the GCF to reinforce, complement and amplify ongoing BREFONS efforts. BREFOL's preparation has respected and satisfied the GCF's complex processes, requiring the preparation of concept notes, FP239, in-depth reviews by the GCF's independent technical evaluation committee and revisions by the Bank's project team, as well as final approval by the GCF Board of Directors (#GCFB39) on July 18, 2024. BREFOL has also introduced new activities, particularly concerning the engagement of the private sector and financial institutions, which were not foreseen under BREFONS and require new approaches. BREFOL introduced loan components to complement the grants for Djibouti and Ethiopia, while all countries were financed by ADF grants under BREFONS. This project contributes primarily to climate adaptation results. Thus, 100% of the total amount approved is allocated to climate financing, of which 100% is dedicated to adaptation.
