Guinea-Bissau - Bissau City Power Distribution System Improvement Project

The Electricity Distribution System Development Project in the City of Bissau (PDSDE) is part of the Electricity Sub-Sector Investment and Capacity Building Program of Guinea Bissau. This Program which is under the country's 2015-2020 Strategic and Operational Plan aims to improve the distribution and increase people's access to quality electricity in the city of Bissau, which is the capital. The cost of the Project is estimated at UA 20.23 million and will be co-financed by the Bank and the Government. The duration of the Project is 36 months from 2018 to 2021. The Project consists, on the one hand, of completely taking over the electricity distribution network in the capital and passing it through the medium voltage network ( MT) from 6 kV to 10 kV and to strengthen and extend it in the outlying districts of Bissau where it is virtually none, and on the other hand to improve the commercial management and governance of the Guinea-Bissau Electricity and Water Corporation (EAGB). This project primely contributes towards climate mitigation result. As such 100% of the total approval is attributed as climate finance, out of which 100% is mitigation finance.
