The proposed intervention concerns the financing of preparatory activities for the construction of a bridge over the Oubangui River between Bangui (CAR) and Zongo (DRC) and the development of its access roads. The project area represents the physical location of the future bridge to be built between Bangui and Zongo, as well as the planned Bangui-Zongo-Kisangani-Kampala and Kisangani-Kavimvira-Bujumbura road corridors. The planned link is one of the key links in the Trans-African Highway TAHN°8: Lagos-Mombasa. The preparatory activities envisaged under this project will be carried out in two phases as follows: (A) Phase I - Preliminary Design (PD) and Detailed Design (PD) for the construction of the bridge over the Ubangi River, including its connection to the existing road networks. - Preparation of the tender documents for the selection of (i) firms to carry out the bridge construction work, and (ii) consulting firms to supervise the said work. - Proposals for (i) an Institutional Architecture for the monitoring and coordination of the planned works, and (ii) a legal mechanism for the management of the future Bridge. - Feasibility study (APS) of the development of the missing links of the Bangui-Zongo-Kisangani-Bujumbura and Kisangani-Kampala road corridors. (B) Phase II: - Study of the facilitation of transport, trade and transit on the Bangui-Kisangani-Bujumbura and Kisangani-Kampala corridors, including the construction of single border control posts (PCUFs) at the CAR/DRC and DRC/Burundi and DRC/Uganda borders. - Proposal of a road safety and road asset protection program on the Bangui-Zongo-Kisangani-Bujumbura and Kisangani-Kampala corridors. These studies, once completed, should enhance the maturity of the proposed bridge construction project and make the proposed facilities attractive to both public and private sector financing. The estimated overall duration of the proposed studies is twelve (12) months from the date of mobilization of the Consultants. The total cost amounts to three million one hundred and seventy-five US dollars (3000175 USD).
