Title:
Multinational (Burkina-Faso, Niger and Mali) - ECOWAS Quality Health Infrastructure For Tackling Neglected Tropical Diseases
Detail:
ECOWAS Quality Health Infrastructure for Tackling Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) project is designed to reduce the burden of disease and reduce the social exclusion and stigma that arise from the debilitating and disfiguring deformities. This will contribute to the increased productivity of affected persons therefore reducing the levels of poverty in the affected communities. The fragile and vulnerable state of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger has resulted in limiting access to basic health services and deficits in health infrastructure which affect the capacity of the health system to tackle NTDs and other health challenges. The project will aim to upgrade laboratories and health infrastructure to ensure high quality NTD diagnosis and management; (ii) improve climate sensitive surveillance-response, and (iii) WASH infrastructure. The key outputs include (a) rehabilitation of health infrastructure and laboratories; (b) enhanced surveillance systems to detect NTDs in timely manner; (c) improved environmental sanitation and hygiene practices (d) Improved coordination and multi-sectoral action to tackle NTDs. The project primarily contributes to climate adaptation results. As such, 35% of the total approved amount is attributed as climate finance, of which 3 million USD is dedicated to adaptation.
