The Horn of Africa Digital Market Integration (HDMI) Project - Phase 1 aims to strengthen the development of more deeply integrated economies across the Horn of Africa region through the creation of a single digital market under the Horn of Africa Initiative (HoAI). It also contributes to make financial transactions more reliable with the strengthening of the control and monitoring systems of central banks in the context of countries in transition who are vulnerable to terrorism, money laundering, etc. The project also proposes to support national posts in the digital transformation of their activities thanks to their significant coverage of vast areas of territory with their offices. In this regard, marketplace platforms will allow populations in remote areas to be able to find outlets for their products, especially the artisanal ones. This intervention is designed around four components, namely: A) Digital trade and e-commerce enablers, B) Data economy and digital trust promotion; C) Support actions and D) Project management. This project primarily contributes to climate mitigation results. As such, 25% of the total approved amount is attributed as climate finance, of which 2 million USD is dedicated to mitigation.
