Multinational - Angololo Multipurpose Water Resources Development Project
Detail:
The Angololo Multipurpose Water Resources Development Project is a regional transboundary water initiative being developed between Kenya and Uganda on the trans-boundary Malaba River shared by the two countries. It is one of the priority projects under the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP), an investment programme of the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI). The project is part of the Sio-Malaba-Malakisi Transboundary Integrated Water Resources Management and Development Programme, and was prioritised following pre-feasibility studies undertaken in 2010 on the river catchment. It comprises the development of a dam and water storage reservoir, development of irrigated agriculture, water supply and sanitation, as well as a system for flow regulation to control floods and manage drought situations. The support to be provided by NEPAD-IPPF in the development of the project is to assist NELSAP, under delegation of the Member Countries to procure consultancy services to undertake studies comprising full feasibility (technical, economic, financial and environmental), preparation of detailed engineering design and to tender documents and a watershed management plan for the Angololo dam / diversion weir intake and irrigation infrastructure. Additionally, the assistance will include the preparation of an independent Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and preparation of a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) for the project. The estimated overall duration of the studies is 34 months from Grant Approval. The total cost is estimated at USD 1,830,000.
