Title:
Multinational - Scaling-up the Clean Cooking Industry in Africa
Detail:
This technical assistance project aims to promote the growth of the clean cooking solutions industry (cookstoves, clean fuels and LPG, distributors) across its value chain. It targets the clean cooking sector regulators and industry players in these three countries: Ghana, Kenya and Cameroon. The proposed activities will scale up the production and distribution of clean cooking solutions while ensuring regulatory compliance. The activities in turn aim to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of people in three countries by transforming their cooking lifestyles. There are multiple development impacts expected. The project will save lives that would otherwise have been lost by Indoor Air Pollution by reducing risk of developing pneumonia (a leading killer of children under 5 years of age), support households to save costs on cooking fuels thus relieve their economic burden, and empower women and girls as they can spend less time collecting fuels and cooking. The project will also directly support women entrepreneurs with the training and capacity building. Further, switching to cleaner fuels and burning less wood fuels and charcoal will significantly reduce forest degradation and black carbon emissions. The objectives will be completed within a 24 months period.
