Title:
Multinational - Feasibility Study for the Luapula Hydro Power Plant
Detail:
The Luapula Hydro Power Project (HPP) was identified as a priority project in the SAPP Pool Plan of 2017 as well as on the SADC and PIDA priority list. The Luapula River runs in southcentral Africa forming a boundary between the southern DRC and northern Zambia for about 560km of its course. The Luapula River rises in the Bangweulu Swamps (one of the world’s largest wetlands) lying east of Lake Bangweulu in eastern Zambia then descends into a series of falls and runs into Lake Mweru in Tanzania. The Luapula HPP Feasibility Study project aims at investigating and producing a detailed technical, economic assessment of the proposed Mumbotuta CX site, for the delivery of a detailed Feasibility Study Report which will be aligned to an environmental and social impact assessment (ESI) study that will be conducted in parallel with funding from the World Bank. The Feasibility study will include the preparation of specifications and tender documentation as well as a financial-economic study that will lead to the financing, procurement, and construction of the power plant and associated transmission infrastructure.
