This intervention concerns the Environmental and Social Impact studies for the proposed Machipanda railway rehabilitation project. The Mozambique’s Port and Railway state owned enterprise -Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique EP (CFM) is seeking for a corporate loan for the rehabilitation of the Machipanda railway line. The project aims to review of existing environmental and social documentation on the line and identify and assess all adverse environmental and social impacts of the project and recommend measures for mitigation. The Project is well aligned with the Bank’s policies and strategies. It will contribute to the development of key infrastructure in Mozambique which also serves landlocked countries in the region such as Zimbabwe by removing the bottlenecks of logistics through moving goods and general freight from landlocked countries to exit ports. Through the proposed intervention, the Bank address the rehabilitation of key infrastructure in the country after the damages caused by cyclone Idai.
