Title:
Multinational - EAC feasibility study for the multinational Kenya- Uganda road - Northern corridor Kisumu-Busia-Kakira
Detail:
The proposed road project align to the Northern Corridor identified by PIDA-PAP as part of the TR08 to modernize the third priority African Regional Transport Integration Network (ARTIN) corridor in East Africa and facilitate travel for people and goods across the borders between Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and DRC. The rehabilitation of the said road sections along the EAC Northern Corridor will contribute to strengthening road infrastructure of the EAC region to meet the needs of regional integration and development areas with trade. The preparatory activities for which the NEPAD-IPPF assistance is requested concern the technical feasibility and economic viability of upgrading and rehabilitating the existing roads and to prepare economic viability report and financing strategies. The studies to determine the economic feasibility of the improvements will be carried out as a single multinational project but the investment will be packaged into two lots, one for each country after securing funds to undertake detailed designs of the same. Supporting the preparation of the Feasibility Studies for the expressway project will enable the road sections to secure investment financing, which will result in positive economic development impact for the sub-region and thus justifies the involvement of NEPAD-IPPF. The estimated overall duration of the project is 24 months from Grant Approval and the contract duration for the studies will be 18 months (excluding the procurement period). The total cost is estimated at USD 1,499,587.00. Of this amount, NEPAD-IPPF will provide USD 1,399,587.00 (93.3%), and counterpart contribution of USD 100,000.00 (06.7%) will be provided by the EAC Secretariat.
