Title:
Multinational - Building Blue Economy Resilience and Prosperity in the IGAD Region and the Horn of Africa
Detail:
The Building blue economy resilience and prosperity in IGAD & Horn of Africa (BE-Prosper) project seeks to address the underutilization and unsustainable management of aquatic resources in the IGAD region, which hampers food security, trade opportunities, and climate resilience. The region suffers from fragmented policies, inadequate governance structures, and limited capacity for managing fisheries and promoting intra-regional trade. This situation is exacerbated by the vulnerability of coastal communities to climate change. The project will target 4 IGAD member countries namely Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia and South Sudan, particularly coastal and riparian communities and national institutions involved in fisheries, aquaculture, and the blue economy. Stakeholders are broadly defined along the fish production chain referring to those that govern (e.g. fisheries managers, maritime observers, custom officers, NGOs), and those that are being governed including fishers, processors, traders, and cooperatives. Project Components are : (i) Improving collaborative governance of transboundary fisheries and genetic resources ; (ii) Policy harmonization and trade facilitation towards intra-regional trade ; (iii) Building Climate Resilience and Institutional Adaptability to Shocks ; (iv) Project Management and coordination. The total cost for the proposed project is UA 4.46 million (USD 6.07 million) comprising of a grant from Transition State Facility (TSF) amounting to UA 4 million and IGAD Secretariat will provide an in-kind contribution of UA 0.46 million (USD 0.63 million) in the form of Human Resources, requisite utilities, office space and logistical services.
