Kenya - Nairobi Rivers Basin Rehabilitation and Restoration Program : Sewerage Improvement Project -Phase II
Detail:
The proposed intervention relates to the second phase of the Sanitation Improvement Project which is part of the Nairobi Rivers Rehabilitation and Restoration Program. The program aims to improve the access, quality, availability and sustainability of wastewater services in Nairobi City with a view to contribute to the restoration of Nairobi Rivers Basin. The water and sanitation sector goal is to contribute to the health and quality of life and reduce poverty levels of the population of Kenya through provision of water and sanitation services on a sustainable basis. The activities financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) under the project include: (i) rehabilitation and construction of wastewater treatment facilities at Dandora, (ii) construction of 220km of sewer reticulation network including faecal sludge management infrastructure, and (iii) construction of 50 ablution blocks and rehabilitation of 50 ablution blocks in Nairobi informal settlements. The project will also directly support Athi Water Services Board (AWSB) and Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) to offer improved sanitation services through institutional strengthening. The project will comprise three components, namely: a) Sanitation Infrastructure, b) Institutional Development Support, and c) Project Management.
