Liberia - Enhancing Climate Information Systems for Resilient Development Project in Liberia (Liberia CIS)
Detail:
Enhancing Climate Information Systems for Resilient Development Project (Liberia CIS) aims to increase the resilience of Liberia’s population and infrastructure to climate change. The project will strengthen the country’s adaptive capacities to integrate better long-term climate risk reduction and adaptation measures in national planning. It will entail training and equipping the existing Liberia Meteorological Service (LMS), Liberia Hydrological Service (LHS), Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) to collect weather and climate data; introduce and maintain modelling, forecast weather events and provide early warnings systems; and scale-up evidence-based climate-informed decision-making, planning, and response actions countrywide. Expected project components include: (i) Enhanced Disaster Risk Knowledge of residents and institutions across the country; (ii) Enhanced Detection, Monitoring, Analysis and Forecasting of the Hazards and Possible Consequences; (iii) Improved early warning dissemination and communication; (iv) Improved Preparedness and Response Capabilities through legislation and forecast-based financing (FBF) mechanism; and (v) Co-ordinated Project Management and Implementation. The project primely contributes towards climate adaptation result. As such 100% of the total approval is attributed as climate finance, out of which 100% is adaptation finance.
