Title:
Madagascar - Indian Ocean - Project to Develop Corridors and Facilitate Trade
Detail:
The Project to Develop Corridors and Facilitate Trade aims to lay the groundwork for road network development in Southern Madagascar (currently the most isolated part of the Big Island), which is connected to potentially important ports on two maritime fronts: the South-West with Tuléar Port and the South-East with the Ehoala Mineral Port. Both ports provide the country access to the Mozambique Channel and Indian Ocean countries, respectively. The project is in line with the key regional operations of NEPAD, COMESA and SADC, and will contribute to strengthening Madagascar's integration with Southern African countries and IOC member countries. It will also improve traffic conditions, and reduce travel time and costs to coastal hubs that connect with countries in the region. It will be implemented over 5 years, from 2019 to 2023. The project will open up Southern Madagascar, thus unlocking a vast region with a considerable agricultural potential to the rest of the country and through the two seaports (Ehoala and Tuléar), and providing access to COMESA countries and the Indian Ocean.
