Madagascar – USD 500,000 Emergency Grant to Support Populations Affected by Cyclone Gezani
Detail:
The Emergency Support to Populations Affected by Cyclone GEZANI is a humanitarian emergency operation in Madagascar designed to support the Government and its partners in alleviating the suffering of populations affected by the passage of Cyclone GEZANI. The cyclone made landfall on 10 February 2026 and caused severe human and material damage, including deaths, injuries, displacement, destruction of homes, schools, health centres and public infrastructure, while worsening food insecurity in already vulnerable communities. The operation is financed through an African Development Bank emergency grant of USD 500,000, provided under the Special Relief Fund, and will be implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) in collaboration with the National Office for Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC) and other relevant institutions. The assistance consists of the purchase and distribution of 281.52 tonnes of food, including 227.49 tonnes of rice, 34.12 tonnes of pulses, and 19.91 tonnes of fortified vegetable oil, together with implementation support, monitoring, and project management.
