Title:
Malawi - Rumphi Water and Sanitation Services Improvement Project
Detail:
The Rumphi water and sanitation services improvement was designed in response to the inadequacy of water supply and sanitation services, one of the main obstacles to the development of human capital and the private sector, as well as to the quality of life in the town of Rumphi. The project seeks to improve the quality of life for residents in Rumphi Town and surrounding areas through the provision of resilient water and sanitation services for their domestic and economic use. The project will also implement physical sanitation facilities and undertake hygiene promotions to expand sanitation services. This will result in increased access to reliable water and improved sanitation services, increased hours of supply, institutional strengthening, and governance. Realising these outcomes will lead to improving the general livelihoods and health of the beneficiaries in the long run and removing bottlenecks for other economic and social activities. The project has three main components: (i) construction of resilient water supply infrastructure; (ii) resilient sanitation infrastructure and hygiene promotion; and (iii) institutional capacity building and project management. The project contributes to climate finance, with 15 million USD of the total approved amount dedicated to adaptation.
