Title:
Mauritius - Gas Insulated Switchgear Project
Detail:
Mauritius Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation Project aims to undertake the necessary network expansion investments. This project is expected to address the vulnerability of the electricity grid to the effects of climate change and the lack of interconnection points for the absorption of renewable energy. These investments will improve the reliability of the national grid and allow for the installation, interconnection and absorption into the national grid of the additional renewable energy generation facilities envisaged. Approximately 133 MW of additional solar PV is planned in the short term to be connected to the new and rehabilitated GIS substations. The Project includes the rehabilitation of six (6) existing outdoor AIS substations with indoor GIS technology and the construction of four (4) new indoor GIS substations to meet the load demand of the major committed developments. This project primarily contributes to climate mitigation results. As such, 100% of the total approved amount is attributed as climate finance, of which 100% is dedicated to mitigation.
