Mozambique - Rice Value Chain and Climate Resilience Project (RIVACREP)
Detail:
The proposed operation is a grant of Sixteen Million, Six Hundred Thousand Units of Account (UA 16,600,000.00) to the Republic of Mozambique for the Rice Value Chain and Climate Resilience Project (RIVACREP). The project goal is to improve competitiveness and climate resilience of the rice value chain in Mozambique improve production, productivity, market share (competitiveness) and income generation from rice production. RIVACREP design considered the lessons learned from past projects in Mozambique and other regions, such as West Africa, where Regional Rice Resilient Value Chains Development Program (REWARD). The project's Theory of Change (ToC) is based on the recognition of the country's food and nutrition security challenges, including a rapidly growing population, severe malnutrition (stunting) levels, and evolving food consumption patterns. Tied to this is the exposure of communities to perpetual poverty and vulnerability. Insufficient rice production levels to meet the country’s demand, limited access to markets and financial services and the prevalent climatic shocks further weaken Mozambique's rice production capabilities. The main components are : (i) Improve climate smart rice productivity and production : (ii) Integration of Private Sector into Rice Value Chain Development ; (iii) Institutional and Policy Strengthening and Implementation Support ; (iv) Contingency Emergency Response (zero cost / budget).
