The Energy Transition, Efficiency and Expansion Project (ETREEP) is an energy sector project in the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe designed to support the country’s energy transition, improve energy efficiency, strengthen the electricity network, and expand access to more reliable and cleaner electricity services. The project will finance a 4 MWp solar photovoltaic plant with a 2 MWh battery energy storage system on Príncipe Island, the installation of 1,000 LED streetlights, the rehabilitation and upgrading of low-voltage networks on Príncipe Island, the modernization of the national dispatching centre, and the supply and installation of 40,000 prepaid meters, alongside institutional capacity building, project management, and technical assistance. The total project cost is UA 22.09 million (USD 30 million), financed by an ADF grant of UA 14 million, a Transition Support Facility Pillar I grant of UA 4 million, a World Bank grant of UA 3.68 million, and an in-kind government contribution of UA 0.41 million.
