This Project Preparation Facility (PPF) aims to prepare the required studies for the investments to be made in the context of the NEW-ERA project. It will also serve to strengthen the capacities of all related sector stakeholders, and provide knowledge products necessary for the harmonious, integrated and inclusive development of the sector as well as the effective development and management of water resources in Sao Tome and Principe for the sake of optimizing the contribution to the water, energy and agriculture sectors development. Specifically, it will contribute to: (i) creating the conditions for achieving a level of access to water of 100%, (ii) sustainably increased the installed power generation capacity and enhance access to electricity, (iii) improve food production capacity in the project area by 2030 through the development of adequate infrastructure, resilient to the effects of climate change and strengthening the quality and efficiency of the water and power services; (iv) Establishing the foundations for adequate and responsible governance of water resources, taking into account competitive uses (energy, agriculture etc.) around the resource at the basin level (v) ensuring full resilience of ecosystems and populations in the project area to the effects of climate change. It will be implemented around 3 components: (I) Capacity Development, Water resources management and development for sustainable and inclusive socio-economic growth; (II) Nexus Water-Energy-Food Security investment preparation; (III) Project Coordination and Management. The project is scheduled to be implemented over a period of 24 months. Its total cost is estimated at UA 2,000,000.00, including UA 1million from the Bank, UA500,000 from the Africa Water Facility, UA 293,816 from the GCA (14.69%) and UA 206,184 (10.31%) from the Government of Sao Tome and Principe.
