Senegal - Access to Water and Sanitation Services for Sustainable Resilience in Disadvantaged Areas Project
Detail:
This intervention concerns the Access to Water and Sanitation Services for Sustainable Resilience in Disadvantaged Areas Project. The project seeks primarily to: (i) establish safe and sustainable drinking water supply and sanitation services through new infrastructure operated in line with the policy of delegating public services to the private sector; (ii) implement a programme to prevent water-borne diseases and pandemics, including COVID-19; (iii) build resilience to climate change and improve governance by supporting the implementation of the IWRM programme and sector reforms; and (iv) support the implementation of a 9 th World Water Forum recommendation on resource mobilisation for projects. Concerning the rural water sub-sector, the project will contribute to improving the quality of the sector heritage to better secure the public water service entrusted to private operators within the framework of public service delegations. The project comprises four main components, including: A) secure access to sustainable water and sanitation services; B) health, nutrition and economic resilience; C) capacity building for climate change resilience and good governance of water, sanitation and hygiene services; and D) project coordination and management. The project primarily contributes to climate adaptation results. As such, almost 50% of the total approved amount is attributed as climate finance, of which 18 million USD is dedicated to adaptation.
