Title:
SENEGAL - Programme to Promote Efficient Lighting Lamps
Detail:
The program to promote efficient lighting lamps (PPLEEF) is in line with the objectives of the national transformation agenda “Senegal 2050”, which aims in particular to ensure universal access to electricity for the Senegalese population by 2034, and contributes to compliance with international agreements on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Indeed, within the framework of international climate agreements, Senegal has submitted its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the climate change mitigation component of which includes two intervention scenarios for emission reductions: (i) the scenario based on domestic and controlled funding, with a 5% and 7% reduction in emissions in 2025 and 2030, respectively, projecting energy savings of 627 GWh and a drop in demand of 127 MW; (ii) the CDN+ scenario, which is based on substantial support from the international community, with a reduction in emissions of 23.7% and 29.5% in 2025 and 2030, respectively, projecting additional energy savings of 3,402 GWh and an additional drop in demand of 688 MW. This project contributes mainly to the results in terms of climate mitigation. Thus, 100% of the total approved amount is allocated to climate finance, of which 100% is dedicated to mitigation.
