Title:
South Sudan - Support to the Covid-19 Pandemic Response Project
Detail:
The proposed project is a UA 3 Million grant from the TSF Pillar 1 (ADF-14) resources under the COVID-19 Rapid Response Facility (CRF) to the Republic of South Sudan to finance the COVID-19 Pandemic Response Project. The first case of COVID-19 was reported on 5th April 2020 and as of May 15, 2020, a total of 994 cases and 10 deaths have been confirmed. South Sudan lacks adequate health system capacity to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The health system is characterized by low health workforce density, limited inpatient bed capacity, gaps in health workers’ skills and competencies, inadequate health infrastructure, and lack of functioning medical equipment. Low coverage of community health interventions and poor access to health facilities further limit the uptake of health services. The project will support the emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic and build health system capacity for emergency preparedness in South Sudan. Major activities will focus on improving health facilities and health worker capacity for detecting COVID-19 and treating COVID-19 cases. The two main components will be implemented synergistically drawing upon complementary linkages to respond immediately to the pandemic as well as build long-term resilience for emergency preparedness in the health system.
