Overview | Benefits of Intercropping for Management of Biodiversity and Livestock… VGN Resources Group Inc. (VGN) will be the Program Administrator for projects under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food's (Ministry) extension programming for environment and climate change. This RFP and project is administered by VGN on behalf of the Ministry. The agriculture industry has identified a knowledge gap and extension need, to address climate challenges in agriculture and facilitate climate adaptation, mitigation, and environmental sustainability. The project will aim to highlight practices supported by the Beneficial Management Practices (BMP) program, a complementary, on-farm cost-share incentive program to assist farm and ranch operations to mitigate some of the risks identified in the farm-specific Environmental Farm Plans (EFPs). The goal of the BMP program is aligned with the goals of increasing adoption of technology and practices that mitigate emerging climate challenges. This new project arose through the Central South Interior (CSI) Regional Extension Committee (REC) engagement process. Producers understand that biodiversity, especially as it relates to pollinators, is important to a resilient and productive food system. Intercropping is a practice producers wish to learn more about to decide whether, and how, to adopt it for biodiversity and livestock feed. Proponent will work with producers to showcase intercropping practices and potential benefit to pollinators, and other beneficial species as well as livestock forage.
