Overview | Implement Indigenous Engagement Requirements for the Emergency And… The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) invites Proponents to submit proposals for the implementation of Indigenous Engagement Requirements that are now under the Emergency and Disaster Management Act (SBC 2023) (EDMA). EDMA requires that consultation and cooperation with Indigenous Governing Bodies (IGBs) is undertaken by municipalities and regional districts across all phases of emergency management. This project will include updating the SLRD All-Hazards Emergency Response Plan and the SLRD Community Risk Assessment to incorporate available Indigenous knowledge, describe measures to promote cultural safety, and articulate other Indigenous interests that may be identified through the engagement process. It will also include development of a contact list and a formal communications protocol for the SLRD Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to consult and cooperate with IGBs during emergencies. The final component of this project will be the delivery of training to SLRD EOC staff on using the new materials and processes that were developed as part of this project. Engagement with local First Nations communities will be required throughout this project and a separate budget has been earmarked to provide honorariums for their participation. This project is paid for by the Emergency and Disaster Management Act Implementation - Indigenous Engagement Requirements Funding Program.
